CHELSEA 2002 AWARDS - The West Midlands-Shizuoka
Goodwill Garden
The garden was awarded an RHS Silver Gilt Medal
and won the BBC People's Award in the show garden category.
The Scene - In the foreground an old
oak fence enclosed a cottage garden with a colourful profusion
of garden and wild flowers. A rustic farm track led from the
front of the garden to an oak barn in which a grey Ferguson
tractor was parked. The entire garden was surrounded with
a mixture of native and garden shrubs and trees.
Background - The garden was mounted by Chris Caligari
Landscapes and Chris provided the design inspiration for the
project. The initial concept originated from a watercolour
painting called "The Old Grey Fergie" which Chris saw in a
gallery in the Cotswolds and from which the idea developed.
The Julian Dowle Partnership adapted the initial design to
suit the Chelsea site and were largely responsible for the
soft landscaping. Chris and his team started the work on 1
May and it was completed by the 19 May.
The Future - Chris and his team are thrilled
with the success of their first venture at Chelsea and hope
to return to Chelsea in 2003, so watch this space!
